Joy on the Journey

I was never thankful for being overweight or having an addiction to food, but now I am starting to see things differently. There really is joy on this journey! I've been thinking about the wonderful people I've met at my Weight Watcher meetings ( I actually met my best friend, Nancy, at a Weight Watchers meeting many years ago) and the encouragement from the different leaders I've encountered over time. I can say the same for First Place 4 Health. Being part of that group allowed my path to cross with some of the most spiritual and amazing people I've ever met. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Even though I'm no longer a member of a First Place group, I credit that ministry with changing my life. I still use their Bible studies for encouragement and have kept in touch with several women I came to know through the online groups.

I've discovered new ways to cook and shop for food. I'm slowly learning to handle stress in healthier ways. I've found exercising can be fun if you find an activity you love to do. Have I arrived? Of course not. There's still much to learn and new things to discover, but I'm awakening to the reality that this can be fun!

No matter how long you've been on your journey, no matter how often you got off course or was detoured by life's surprises, just celebrate being where you are today. Learn to embrace the beauty of each day being a new chance to change for the better. Don't see it as a negative part of your life but start to grasp the wonder of it all. Live in the present. Celebrate each positive choice you make moment by moment. It all starts in the mind. If we believe the journey can be fun and exciting, it will be.

I'm feeling a renewed sense of excitement, and I'm looking forward to finding joy daily on the journey to better health.
